In the depths of the forest the terrain provides a variety of encounters. Every step leads to a new confrontation and seductive surfaces overwhelm the senses. Working on site, in contact with nature, I try to absorb this experience by executing small studies. These observations are then gathered together and translated into fictive landscapes within my studio. From the many sites and sources an amalgamation of the landscape is created. Painting from both observation and away from the subject allows me to capture the nuances of observed light while simultaneously developing the paintings in a more improvisational way. The process is very much like the course of a myth. It has roots in reality and truth, and over time it evolves and adapts through the imagination, adding more complex layers.
